Country Music History

so i have a a music project for my U.S history class and the paper says the following:
Throughout our country’s history, music has often been used to describe, interpret , or explain the vents of that time period. Wether country, rock, alternative or rap, some artists choose to send a message with their music. Sometimes, even though they don’t intendo, we take meaning from their music, because of things that are going on in the world around us. This assignment is meant to be an opportunity for you to choose music that “speaks to you” and combine it with picture and images of what is going on around us.
So does anyone think that can give me an idea of something interesting that is going on, i know i don’t want war because people are doing that.

Would you agree or disagree that at the lowest common denominator rap music and country music are in many ways the same, they just originate at opposite ends of the racial spectrum. Both are made largely by and for people from the lowest rungs on the socio-economic ladder and embrace and celebrate a lack of social sophistication. Both embrace the racial slurs once hurled at them. In country music it is commonplace to hear something like “HELL YEAH TO ALL MY REDNECKS!” in rap music “YEEAAH N*GGA!” Furthermore, the way in which fans of each type of music defend their preferences is almost identical as well. When an unbiased person hears a rap song about getting drunk, popping pills, degrading women and/or killing people they instinctively recognize it as trash. However if they were to try to explain this to a fan of such music they would be met with arguments such as “They’re just keeping it real” or “They’re just exposing the true nature of life on the streets.” Likewise, when an unbiased person hears a drunken, confederate flag waving, rebel yelling country song advocating a life of simple mindedness and backwards redneck ways they instinctively identify it as garbage. Yet if they were to make an effort to point this out to a fan of that kind of music they would likely be met with a defense of “They don’t mean no harm, they’re just some good ol’ boys” or ” I can’t help it, I’m just too damn country!”
I like some hip hop, and there is some older country that I like as well, it just seems that most of what has become commonplace in either genre is an absolute disgrace and insult to their respective histories and origins. What do you think?

…how come the 2 artists who have the most #1 hits in music history are both country artists? (Conway Twitty, George Strait)

I seem to be a tad confused.
This is what I thought Country Music is suppose to be…
“An American style of popular music, developed from the folk music of the rural southern USA and first known as Hillbilly music. Until the 1920s it was performed largely at home, in church or at local functions, on fiddles, banjos and guitars. Later it developed towards a commercial industry, with local radio and gramophone cultivation of such artists as Fiddlin′ John Carson, Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family. After World War II, Nashville became the centre of country music, and exponents like Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams became internationally known. The style broadened, with a fusion of south-western and south-eastern elements, to encompass other types of popular music in the 1960s and 1970s and became less regionally based. More recent performers include Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. The subject matter for country songs has continued to be mother and home, the rambling man, prison, hard work, love and religion.”

Three oldest musicians I know (excluding Dalhart, though I don’t know much nor do I feel much of a connection with him). Which do you prefer? Do they share any history with each other? Any friendship? Think Rodgers and MacClintock listened to each other? Both had songs in 28-33, but Rodgers had more commercial success from what I know.
Thanks, just making an addition to my musical hierarchy.

I need to do a speech on the history of country music and any help would be much appreciated. A good thesis statement is the biggest thing and then three good main points. Thanks.
